Residents at Ponderosa Pines enjoy superb medical care, a vibrant activities program that is inclusive to the native culture, dining that features native dishes, full-service housekeeping and laundry services, comfortable rooms with Wi-Fi internet access and other amenities, transportation to and from appointments outside of the facility, and a number of other personalized services. Richard Anderson has 10 years of experience in healthcare administration, with 5 of those years being spent at Ponderosa Pines. Anderson has a bachelor’s degree in both Health Care Administration Services, with an emphasis in long-term care, and in Gerontology.
Leslie Kuhn has over 15 years of experience as a Director of Nursing. For the last 5 years, she’s been serving as the Director of Nursing for Ponderosa Pines. Projects that she is currently working on include Nursing Home Pay for Performance and QIS.
Kuhn studied nursing at Yavapai College. She is certified in wound care and the MDS.
Phil Shores has extensive experience in office management. In his role at Ponderosa Pines, he serves as the liaison between residents, their family members, staff and other community resources. It is his roll to ensure that the resident’s needs are being met and that, when the time is right, they are properly discharged back to the community.
Claudette Charles has been with Ponderosa Pines for nearly 15 years. Her caring and friendly approach is appreciated by those she assists with bank accounting and general funds management.
Rachel Whiting is a graduate of Northern Arizona University’s College of Nursing. Whiting’s work has included that of a correctional nurse, a floor nurse, a unit manager, an MDS coordinator, and an Interim Director of Nursing. Currently, she is responsible for production of the care plan and MDS assessment for each resident and coordinates care plan meetings with residents, families, and staff in an effort to provide the best care possible and facilitate open understanding and communication among all participants in a resident’s care.
After completing a vocational culinary arts program during high school, Stewart Weinstein completed an associate’s degree in Culinary Arts and a bachelor’s degree in Culinary Nutrition. Following school, Weinstein worked in England as a Sous Chef for Champney’s Health Spa. Recently, he returned the the United States to complete a dietetic internship. He will be taking his Registered Dietician exam in the fall.
Colleen McGrath’s career in skilled nursing began when she started volunteering at Ponderosa Pines during high school. She loved working with the residents and has now worked in the Activities Department for nearly 8 years. It is her responsibility to plan activities that will be enjoyed by the residents and their family members.
Carrie Farrar received her master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Northern Arizona University. She has been practicing Physical Therapy for 12 years with experience ranging from geriatrics to neonatal. Her clinical experience has been in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, critical care, wound care, acute care and the Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
Gail Magdalena holds a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She brings extensive experience in the treatment of acute hand injuries, hand splinting and ergonomics. Magdalena has served as a Department Manager for the Occupational Therapy Department at Downey Community Hospital and USC University Hospital in Los Angeles. She currently functions as the Rehab Manager for Ponderosa Pines and has been providing Occupational Therapy Services to the residents of this facility since 2006.
